Picking a dumpster size is the first decision on almost every cleanup, and it is the one people second-guess the most. Too small and you pay for a second haul. Too big and you pay for space you never use. Here is a practical way to decide.
Start with what you are throwing away
Walk the job and sort it into three piles: bulky items (furniture, appliances, cabinets), loose debris (drywall, flooring, small trash) and heavy material (concrete, brick, dirt). Bulky and loose debris take up room. Heavy material adds weight, and weight is what limits a dumpster, so tell us about it up front.
The three sizes we rent most
- 11-yard mini dumpster: our specialty. It suits garage cleanouts, a single-room remodel, a deck tear-off or a small roofing job, and it is compact enough to sit in most driveways without cracking the pavement.
- 15-yard dumpster: the sweet spot for a kitchen or bathroom remodel, a larger cleanout or a flooring replacement across several rooms.
- 18-yard dumpster: for whole-house cleanouts, bigger remodels and post-construction cleanup where there is a lot of volume.
Need more? We also provide 20, 30 and 40-yard containers for large projects.
A quick sizing rule
If you are between two sizes, ask yourself which mistake costs more. For a renovation where the work might surprise you, size up. For a tidy garage cleanout where you can see everything, the smaller size usually does the job.
Think about placement too
A dumpster needs a flat, clear spot, usually the driveway, with room overhead for the truck and trailer to set it down. If your driveway is tight or sloped, tell us when you call so we can plan the delivery.
